For those with the time and money, online travel advice website Expedia reveals its Top 10 best beach destinations. Reuters has not endorsed this list:

1. Cable Beach Broome, Western Australia

Located 7 km (4 miles) from Broome, Cable Beach is one of Australia’s premier beach destinations. Featuring 23 km of pure white sand and crystal clear turquoise water, the beach is almost perfectly flat and ideal for swimming and surfing. Bordering the Indian Ocean, and surrounded by the vast inland wildernesses of Western Australia, Cable Beach has an atmospheric “last outpost” feel. Travelers can explore the exquisite beach on foot or by four-wheel drive. Cable Beach is also renowned for its sunsets, which can be enjoyed whilst riding a camel along the beach, or from the comfort of one of the many beach-side restaurants.

2. Ao Nang Beach Krabi, Thailand

Ao Nang is known as Thailand’s best all-round beach destination, due to its central location in the Andaman Sea and magnificent scenery. Ao Nang beach is relatively unspoiled and days can be spent relaxing by the shore or taking part in one of the many activities on offer, such as, snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. The beach is also conveniently located to restaurants and bars. The equally spectacular Railey Beach is only a 15-minute ferry ride away and is approximately two hours from Phuket.

3. Nha Trang Beach Nha Trang, Vietnam

Nha Trang is the known as Vietnam’s premier “traditional” seaside resort – a lively seaside town where travelers relax by day and party by night. Surrounded on three sides by mountains, Nha Trang Bay is considered among the world’s most beautiful bays and one of Vietnam’s best beaches. The beach is long and flat, with golden sands and spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. It is also the gateway to a cluster of quieter islands which offer outstanding snorkeling and scuba diving trips.

4. Paradise Beach & others Yasawa Island, Fiji

Yasawa Island is famous for its fine sand and exquisite beaches, including Paradise Beach and Champagne Beach, and its limestone caves, which put the Island on the map when “The Blue Lagoon” blockbuster movie with Brooke Shields was filmed there in the 1980s. Yasawa Island, the largest of about 20 volcanic islands in Fiji’s Yasawa island archipelago, is renowned for its spectacular rugged scenery and palm-fringed white sandy beaches. Yasawa Island is the only island in this outlying archipelago with an airstrip.

5. Azeda Beach Búzios, Brazil

Armação dos Búzios (better known as Búzios) is a peninsula surrounded by 8 km of islands and beaches, and made famous in the 1960s when film star Brigitte Bardot passed through, drawing the attention of adventurous tourists around the world. The beach is now dotted with hip restaurants, bars and boutiques. Búzios’ premier beach, Adeza Beach, is considered one of the prettiest in Brazil. Accessible on foot, the beach boasts a 300-meter (yards) stretch of fine white sand and crystal clear water. With waves virtually non-existent, it is perfect for snorkeling.

6. Lanikai Beach Oahu, Hawaii

Located about 30 minutes’ drive from Honolulu – in the town of Kailua – Lanikai Beach is a 500-metre stretch of powdered sugar sand, and a perfect spot for travelers seeking a quiet, remote location to relax. It is sheltered by a wide, protective offshore reef and has a clear view of the spectacular Na Mokulua islands, certainly living up to its translated name, “heavenly sea.”

7. Isola Bella Beach Taormina, Sicily, Italy

Located on the east coast of Sicily, with views of Mt Etna, and protected by the bay and mountains, Isola Bella beach is without a doubt one of Sicily’s most prized natural assets. The beach is located close to Taormina, a quintessential Italian beach town, and a popular holiday destination amongst artists and celebrities. The beach features pebbles rather than sand, typical of many European beaches, and crystal clear water, making a dip during the hot Italian summer irresistible. Depending on the tide, beachgoers can walk to Isola Bella, the nature reserve on the tiny islet adjoining the beach, or swimmers can swim or snorkel around the island. Taormina itself is a charming town and perched on the cliffs above its gorgeous beaches, which can be reached by an aerial tram.

8. Clifton Beach Cape Town, South Africa

Actually four adjacent beaches separated by giant granite boulders, and set against the most spectacular backdrop of the majestic Twelve Apostles mountain range, Clifton Beach is considered one of Cape Town’s “glamour” spots – where the rich and famous live and beach-loving locals and tourists go to relax. Each with its own identity, 4th Beach is the most popular and entertains beachgoers with volleyball and Frisbee. Although sheltered from the prevailing Southeaster in the summer, the chilly Atlantic Ocean means a quick dip is all that is required to cool down from the baking sun. The best time of the day is just before sundown, as you can kick back to watch the sun set over the sea.

9. Seven Mile Beach Negril, Jamaica

Located in the heart of the Caribbean Sea, the island of Jamaica has long been the playground of sun worshippers the world over. On its western shores – at Negril – is Seven Mile Beach. Close to scores of hotels that hug the curved shoreline, it is the longest continuous stretch of beach in Jamaica. At the end of the beach is a lighthouse, with majestic views of the surrounding cliffs and spectacular rock formations. The beach is popular with families, but there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained including snorkeling, kayaking and glass-bottom boat tours.

10. Mughsayl Beach Salahah, Oman

Salalah, in southern Oman, has a unique charm with its coconut groves and banana plantations growing right to the water’s edge. It is also blessed with great beaches – popular for swimming and beach football. Mughsayl Beach is one of the most popular of Oman’s 2,700 km of untouched sandy beaches. The golden sands and sparkling water contrasting with the rough mountains and cliffs, make Mughsayl a truly memorable and visually unique beach experience. During rainy season, the huge waves cause dramatic explosions of water through blow holes at one end of the beach. Mughsayl Beach is approximately 45 km from Salahah City, but certainly worth the trip.

Where Vietnam’s mountains meet the sea

Dai Lanh Cape in central Phu Yen Province offers visitors a very peaceful and untouched beach and a historic lighthouse.

Phu Yen is a small province which locates not far from Nha Trang city to the south. The province is in the Southern Central of Vietnam, 1.161 km from Hanoi and 561 km from Ho Chi Minh city.

If you spend a few days relaxing in a peaceful Nha Trang resort, you might want to catch a local bus and head for Phu Yen city for a little discovery. You can see the cape, as well as other natural scenes and still make it back to your hotel in the day.

Dai Lanh is also known as Dien Cape, Nay Cape or Ba Cape. It is a branch of Truong Son Mountain Range that reaches out to the East Sea. The cape was found by a French solider named Varella, therefore it is also known by his name.

Dai Lanh Lighthouse, built by the French in 1890s 26.5-metres. It is also 110 metres above sea level. Inside is a 110 step wooden staircase. The lighthouse can transmit light signals 27 nautical miles and is among Vietnam’s 45 first-class lighthouses.

In 1945, Dai Lanh Lighthouse stopped operating after 55 years and it was put into use again in 1961. During the American War in the 1970s, the lighthouse stopped operating again as the site served as a revolutionary base which received weapon transport ships to support the southern battles. In 1997, the lighthouse underwent restoration and put back into use.

From the lighthouse, the immense space of the sea can be viewed with its strangely-shaped rocks.

A date with history in the Central
c9606 imperialhue 1 405 A date with history in the Central

Take a stroll around the Imperial Hue Palace

I was born in the North and I grew up in the South, but the central is my favorite place for traveling.

When I was a child, I really loved the Mid-Autumn festival and taking part in the lantern parades with other kids along the village trails. At that time, we made lanterns by ourselves with bamboo sticks and colored paper or plastic. On one visit to Hoi An ancient town, I took part in a long Mid-Autumn Festival with many colorful lanterns hanging on the streets and lanterns shops. The old houses built in Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese or French architecture, made me feel like I was a child again.

My Son Sanctuary, a UNESCO world cultural heritage

My Son Sanctuary in Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province, gave me an insight into Cham people’s culture. The sanctuary was the site of religious ceremonies for kings of  Champa, between the 4th and 12th centuries. It was a worshipping place for the Hindu religion in the Cham kingdom and is the foremost heritage site of its kind in Vietnam. A large complex, My Son Sanctuary comprises more than 70 architectural works, including temples and towers that connect to each other.

Hue made the strongest impression on me with old buildings, royal palace, the roads where I sheltered from the light rain under tamarind trees and ladies in white ao dai and conical hats.

Despite being largely destroyed during the war, Hue’s Citadel is a great place to visit. Some of the buildings have been refurbished or have managed to escape damage and the architecture and the remaining statues and walls create an interesting look into the past. The museum exhibits inside the complex are informative, giving visitors more than a cursory summary of historical events.

A visit to Hue is to think about Vietnam’s history.

In Hue, I did not forget to visit Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the oldest pagodas in the country to find some peace during my trip and burn incense to pray for good luck and good health.

Danang is other prospect in the Central, a modern and dynamic city with many high-tech parks and towers. The city, which is endowed with stunning landscapes such as Han River, Son Tra Peninsula or Ngu Hanh Son Mountain, has plenty for tourists to do.

Cham island part of the world’s lung
Lying in Tan Hiep commune, in the central province of Quang Nam’s Hoi An town, Cu lao Cham or Cham island is a cultural historical monument that is closely associated with the establishment and development of Hoi An town for a thousand years.
The island has become one of 15 Vietnames maritime reserves since 2007. However, in May, 2009, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) accepted Cham island as a world biosphere reserve thanks to its topography, the biodiversity value and the unspoilt and attractive landscape.

The sapphires
The island consists of eight islets, including Hon Lao, Hon Dai, Hon Kho me or the mother Hon Kho, Hon Kho con or the child Hon Kho, Hon La, Hon Tai, Hon Ong. Each islet with a distinct feature of beauty and wonderful sand beaches make an ideal landscape. The abrupt mountain slopes, big waves and floristic composition makes these islets like unpolished sapphires. The island is, therefore, an ideal destination.

Kingdom of aquatic animals
With 500 hectares of sea-weed alga, marine algae and sea grass and 165 hectares of coral and sea creatures, the island is considered a kingdom of aquatic animals. Of which, the coral has 135 species, algae and sea grasses have 500 species, fish 202 species, lobster 4 species and mollusks 84 species. Under the clear fresh water is coral and shoals of colorful fish. If you go for a scuba dive you will encounter a beautiful marine world.

Go and discover
Cham island is 15 kilometres from Cua Dai beach and 20 kilometres off the coast from Hoi An ancient town. If reach the island by hi-speed boat, it will take you just 30 minutes. Meanwhile, boat ticket prices are very reasonable. Therefore, there will be no reason for you to miss the chance of taking a visit to such a natural and unspoilt landscape, fresh air and cool climate. From Cua Dai beach, you can also take a trip to the island by a normal boat. All you need to do is to find a mean of transportation to get you from your Hoi An hotel to get to the boat, such as a local bus or hired motorbike.
However:
Before starting the trip, you should be aware of environmental protection. You should not bring anything made from plastic or anything that could damage the environment.
After starting the boat, you will quickly reach the largest islet- Hon Lao, that covers 1.317 hectares and is 500 metres high. This islet is, therefore, considered as the rooftop of these islets. Continuing on the trip you can visit the historical monuments of Hai Tang Pagpda-a 300-year architecture located among three mountains called Bat Long, Ngoa Long and Tiem.
There are so many wonderful landscapes on Cham island that you can not visit far-away places on a day tour. However, destinations that you should not miss include Lang Ong, the old well, Huong fishing village, and an exhibition of nature and the Cham island people’s culture.
culaocham 027 Cham island part of the world’s lung
Come and enjoy
If you come to Cham island you will have chance to join in many water sports, including swimming, water skiing, paragliding, kayaking, kite flying and boat racing. You will also have chance to scuba dive and go on glass-bottomed boat that allows you to discover the underwater world. At night time, you can also participate in cultural activities on the beaches until late.
Finally, there is nothing that could bring you a more enjoyable feeling than enjoying the special fresh seafood at reasonable prices after your trip or tour.

Community based tourism is seen as a gateway to economic improvement and tourism opportunity in Vietnam.

An artisan of Sinh Village draws pictures on a wooden frame

A seminar was held to promote community based tourism services in central Thua Thien-Hue Province on December 7.

The event was aimed to review the two-year implementation of this type of tourism under the cooperation among farmers, the Responsible Tourism Group and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation.

To date, four community tourism sites have been set up in the province, attracting thousands of visitors, including tours to the ancient village of Phuoc Tich, the Thanh Toan tiled bridge, the Tam Giang Lagoon and the mountainous district of Nam Dong.

Tourists are given the opportunity to see special products made by local farmers, featuring Hue city’s identities such as a handmade-wooden models of Thanh Toan tiled bridge, folk paintings of Sinh Village and paper-made lotus flowers of Thanh Tien Village.

One such place is Ruong House, which is hundreds of years old (a type of panel home typical to Hue) in Phuoc Tich Village, eat cakes and rice with the house owners and then relax in fruit gardens.

If you wish to explore the traditional beauty of Cho House (houses less than 5 square metres set up by fishermen) on Tam Giang-Cau Hai, the widest lagoon in Southeast Asia, this is the place. Here, you can see tools and traditions of local fishermen and enjoy fresh seafood products.

The model of community tourism will help travel firms to bring more tourists to rural areas in Thua Thien-Hue and increase revenue for farmers as well as diversify tourism products in Thua Thien-Hue, according to Pham Thi Duyen Anh, SNV Tourism Advisor.

The following are photos of community tourism in Thua Thien-Hue and farmer’s unique tourism products.

Discovering the mysteries inside Tham Nam Caves

Tham Nam Caves have wowed visitors who make the journey with its magnificent features and stunning sights.

The caves are located inside Pha Chang Limestone Mountain by Nam Non River, Huu Khuong Commune, Tuong Duong District, Nghe An Province. The province is 291km from Hanoi, 368km from Hue city, and 468km from Danang.

Tham Nam’s caves cover thousands of square metres and are filled with unique stalactites and stalagmites in various shapes. How they look can vary depending on the imagination of visitors.

Discovering the mysteries of these caves followed by enjoying fish caught fresh from the river that runs through it, is a delightful experience for those who visit Tham Nam.

However, not many locals realise its value in terms of culture and tourism partly because of its geographical location. Many years ago, the journey would take about a week, forcing those brave enough cross the Nam Non River and then over 150 waterfalls and rapids, trekking their way through jungles to get there. But nowadays, it’s easy to get to Tham Nam.

Civilians said that they have found many ancient artifacts there such as daggers and statues of female dancers. There are places inside the caves which have enough space for hundreds of people to relax and enjoy fascinating cave formations developed over thousands of years and sparkling quartz scattered all over the caves roof. There is also a stream running through the cave with cool, clean water that has an abundance of shrimp and fish.

In the past, several cultural activities were often held in Tham Nam and other neighbouring caves. However, these activities are no longer organised and the caves remain rarely visited.

Vi Tan Hoi, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tuong Duong District shared, “In the near future, Tham Nam will be an attractive and enchanting destination for tourists. They will have an unforgettable experience.”
